Julie and Robin's Wedding

Julie was one of those bride's that was just the epitomy of effortless, individual style - so naturally her wedding flowers would be too! The day Vivienne met her for her wedding consultation, we had a gorgeous bouquet of purple vanda orchids, dusky pink cymbidium orchids, cerise freesia and folded aspisitra leaves made up for an order- and as soon as she saw it, she thought that it would just make the perfect bridal bouquet for her! To complement her bridesmaids' raspberry-coloured dresses, we created sweet-smelling posies of lilac and cerise freesia, studded with vintage amnesia roses and finished with a collar of folded cordeline leaves.

The wedding took place at the atmospheric Culcruech Castle in Fintry, and in keeping with the contemporary theme, we created striking vases of gladioli, roses and orchids for the ceremony, and vibrant posies of gerbera, freesia and orchids in fishbowl vases for her table centrepieces. The wedding (and all the flowers!) were captured to perfection by Simon and Sylwia from Crofts & Kowalczyk.

Classic v. Contemporary

With two weddings taking place at the sumptuous Mar Hall last weeked, we were in the perfect position to consider the dilemma of classic versus contemporary wedding flowers. The contemporary table centres at Friday's wedding were composed of white hydrangea, avalanche roses and black tie leaves. Whilst at Sunday's wedding the couple opted for more classic table centres of longi lilies, avalanche roses and dendrobium orchids. We're still undecided as to which was our favourite..........

David Austin Roses

A couple of times a year we get the opportunity to use the very luxurious David Austin roses for a wedding. Last weekend we used this delicate vintage style rose in the bouquets and table centres at House for an Art Lover. There are around 6 different varieties available as cut flowers and our bride chose the romantically named Juliet.

Our bride also opted for a simple but stylish wreath hanging over the ceremony area.

Homes & Interiors Scotland 2010

Just over a month to go until the fantastic Homes & Interiors Scotland Exhibition at the SECC and our planning is well underway. As usual we need to design all the flowers for the public areas of the show, come up with some new ideas for the Design Theatre and work out the best way to fill the Mood Flowers stand with lots of beautiful flowers. The colour palette of the show this year is blue and cerise pink so designs of hydrangea, gerbera and orchids are on the drawing board at the moment.

Nick will be in the Design Theatre on all 3 days of the show. The provisional times are:

Friday 27th August 11:30am-12:10pm
Saturday 28th August 3:00pm-3:40pm
Sunday 29th August 2:00pm - 2:40pm

We still have fond memories of the 2009 show and our purple and orange creations....

as well as the vibrant pink phalaenopsis orchids on the Mood Flowers stand....

Hotel du Vin Wedding

The prestigious Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens is not only one of our longest standing clients, but also one of our favourite wedding venues. Thanks to Ross Brownlee at Imagine Images for sending through these photos from Gillian and Gavin's big day on the 2nd July and congratulations to the happy couple!

1.2 million roses per week!

At Mood Flowers we love to travel to get inspiration for our designs. Back in May this year, Nick was invited to represent the UK and joined 6 other top European designers at the Passion Experience at Marjoland in Holland. World renowned for growing Passion roses, Marjoland has to be seen to be believed. The greenhouse is the largest in Europe and manages to produce over 1.2 million roses per week.

Nick (right) joined Johan van den Nouweland (Head of Growing and Technical) in one of the huge greenhouses for a tour of the 20 hectare site.

Halfway through the morning harvest.

Blink and you'll miss it - one of the high speed rose grading machines.

The stunning entrance display created by Nick, Nadine Thiemann (Germany) and Hanna Roxberg (Sweden) - three designers, three languages, three visions but they got there in the end!

A touch of tartan was brought to the proceedings.

Weekly Step by Step arrangement

For all you flower enthusiasts who can't make it along to one of our classes at the Flower School and who want some new ideas to create beautiful flower displays, make sure you read our weekly column in the Sunday Mail's Right at Home magazine, available online and at your local newsagent each week. Last week's edition was all about the fabulous gloriosa lily.

Behind the Scenes

Our studio space in Anniesland is open to the public from Monday to Saturday but as so many of our customers order their flowers over the telephone, we thought we'd show you behind the scenes. Our 1,800 square foot studio is the perfect environment for creativity allowing us plenty of space for all our vases, candelabras and other props as well as the thousands of stems of flowers which pass through each week. Stop by and visit sometime.

And with a little help from our talented friends at Display Works and CPE Lighting we can transform our workspace into a fanastic events space for wedding open evenings and client parties.

Wedding Flowers

Just received the latest edition of Wedding Flowers magazine through the post. It's such a privilege to be the only Scottish florist featured in such a prestigious magazine which profiles the best wedding flowers in the UK. Pick up a copy and look out for our summer inspired bridal bouquet and wedding table centre on pages 72-73 of this edition (August/September 2010).

The Colour Purple

It's always great when our work is recognised on other blogs especially ones as cool as Rock My Wedding. Roz was one of our brides from back in February 2010 who was determined to have a truly purple wedding and the best way to do that in style is to use the beautiful vanda orchid - sure to be a show stealer on your big day.

At Mood Flowers we can't get enough of this magnificent flower and have used it to create stunning displays at different events in the past year.....
